The Probe Reliability Assurance System (PRA-System)

 The PRA-System assures accurate carbon control of your heat treating furnace by eliminating errors caused by a carbon/oxygen probe failure. The PRA-System employs dual probes, so that when the controlling probe fails an accurate back-up probe is automatically selected for use with your Carbon Control System.

The PRA-System developed by Furnace Control Corp. utilizes two carbon/oxygen probes and a uniquely programmed diagnostic microprocessor instrument. The two oxygen probes are installed in close proximity to each other in the same heat treating furnace. The microprocessor continuously compares the voltage output of the two carbon probes.

When both probes give accurate signal outputs, the PRA microprocessor selects either one of the probes' output for the Carbon Control System. However, when one of the probes fail, the microprocessor selects the output from the accurate probe and sends this signal to the Carbon Control System. An alarm/display then informs the furnace operator that:

1. A probe failure has occurred

2. Identifies which probe has failed.

The failed probe can then be removed from the furnace and replaced at any convenient time. Thus, the PRA-System eliminates problems caused by probe failure and assures uninterrupted, accurate carbon/oxygen probe input to your Carbon Control System.
