Universal Carbon Control System

The Universal Carbon Control System developed by Furnace Control Corp is a high accuracy carbon control system specifically designed for the heat treating industry.

HIGH ACCURACY The combination of an Accucarb® Probe and a micro-processor controller provides high accuracy and fast system response. Typical accuracy is 0.1%.	SIMPLE INSTALLATION A complete, fully wired and self contained system . . . all it needs is electric power.
% CARBON READOUT The control instrument simultaneously displays the furnace carbon and the setpoint directly in percent carbon.	SIMPLE OPERATION The system automatically controls carbon in the furnace atmosphere without gas samples, calibrations or adjustments.
BOOST & DIFFUSE CARBURIZING Automatic switching of dual setpoints with optional timer.	PROVEN DESIGN Tried and tested design in batch, pit and continuous furnaces for long term reliability.

UNIVERSAL CARBON CONTROL SYSTEM
The Universal Carbon Control System is designed for control of carbon potential in endothermic or nitrogen/methanol based heat treating atmospheres. This system was carefully designed to incorporate features most often requested by heat treaters. Because of the uniquely versatile design, this can be a "custom" system at a "standard" system price. The system consists of the following major components which are explained in detail below and are shown in the adjacent figure:

INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL
This is an attractive, yet functional panel, designed to add-on along side of an existing temperature control panel or to be mounted separately. The fully wired panel houses a controller and a strip chart recorder, alarm indicators with an external horn relay and a gas control switch, along with an optional digital timer to accomplish unattended "boost and diffuse" carburizing.

ACCUCARB® CARBON PROBE
This is the most important component of any carbon control system, and this probe is the most accurate and reliable carbon probe available. The probe has an integral type K thermocouple. Other type thermocouples optional.

PROBE CABLE AND TUBE ASSEMBLY
This is a 20-foot long cable, thermocouple extension wire and tubing to interconnect the ACCUCARB Carbon Probe and the Instrument Control Panel. The probe cable has a connector on one end to fit the probe. Longer interconnections are optional.

MOTORIZED GAS CONTROL VALVE
Consisting of a North American 3/4-inch adjustable port valve, assembled to a Honeywell motor-operator This valve is driven by the carbon controller to adjust the enriching gas flow to the furnace. A separate solenoid valve, (not included) normally already on the furnace is used for positive gas shut off.
